Dear Kettlebell,

The day I met you, my fitness workout changed for the better. I’ve been wanting to tell you this for a while now, but it wasn’t until our awesome kettlebell workout last night that I finally found the right words. The thing is, I love you.

I have to admit, at first I was a bit sceptical about you. My friends had all bragged about how incredibly versatile you are, how you lifted their cardio game, and how you made their workouts so much more rewarding. But it’s more than that. Your thick handles are easy to grip, encouraging me to tackle new fitness challenges. I love the smoothness of your curved edges and the feeling of your weight in my arms. You make me feel powerful, like I can achieve anything. You inspire me, kettlebell.

That’s why I’m so glad that I traded my old dumbbell in for you. I only wish that I’d realised earlier how much more I could get out of a workout with the right equipment on my side.

Kettlebell Workouts: My All Time Favourites

I love meeting up with you to hang out at my local ifeelgood24/7. One of my favourite workouts that we share together is the Around the Body Pass, where I stand with my feet hip width apart and pass you around my body, starting with my right hand and then changing over to my left behind my back. I can feel how you help improve my core strength – that’s what best friends do for each other, right?

Another favourite workout is the Front Squat, where I hold you at my chest and squat until my legs are at a 90 degree angle, before returning to standing position. Last but not least, I love doing the Strict Press exercise with you. I start by holding you at my shoulder with my elbow bent, and as I lift you above my head until my arm is straight, I feel like I’m invincible.

Although I love everything we do together, my absolute favourite thing has got to be the Swing, the foundation of all kettlebell exercises. I love the feel of your weight in my hand as I go into a deep squat, bracing as I hold onto your handle and place you between my legs. Then, with my arms outstretched, I swing you all the way up to shoulder height before bringing you back down to where we started.

But do you know what I love most? You make me a happier, healthier person. I love that these kettlebell exercises combine strength training and cardiovascular conditioning, and have the ability to improve my cardio fitness and my overall strength. You help me strive to become the master of my own life. Better than my old dumbbell? You bet you are.

What Would I Do Without You?

Now I can’t imagine my life without you, kettlebell. I owe so much to the ifeelgood24/7 team for introducing us. They realised how perfect we were for each other even before we did. Now that we’ve worked out together, I could never go back to training without you. Sure, I might find new friends – the elliptical trainer, the chin up bar – but know that you were my first love. Every time I did my kettlebell workout for weight loss, you were always right there with me, supporting me and helping me to reach my goal. I mean it when I say that I couldn’t have done it without you.
